How do I play an older FLV file online?

Why won't my FLV file play in the browser?

FLV often wraps legacy codecs (DivX, Xvid, WMV3, etc.) that modern browsers don't decode natively. Converting the FLV to MP4 (H.264) makes it play everywhere.

Will I lose quality playing or converting FLV?

Playback never changes your file. If you convert FLV to a modern format, choose a high-quality preset to keep the result visually close to the FLV source.

Is FLV still a good format to keep my videos in?

FLV is widely compatible with old software but uses dated, less efficient compression. For streaming and small files, converting FLV to MP4 or WebM is usually better.

Does the FLV player upload my file?
